A report received by Mr M. E. Wiig Norwegian Consul at Bluff, from the tyvo whaling vessels, Sir James Clark Ross •and C. A. Larsen, operating in the Ross Sea, states that the season this yeai has not, so far, been as satisfactory as in previous years, especially last year. This necessitates a longer stay than usual in the frozen south, and yvhereas both whalers had returned at this time last year they are this year not expected to reach Paterson Inlet until the first or second week in March. His personal opinion (says the Southland Times) was that the season’s operations yvould not bo so successful as the returns of the Neilsen Alonso—£3so,ooo. The latter vessel had been yvorking in the seas north of Ross Sea.
