RETURNING PROSPERITY.
THE CONDITIONS AT HOME. AUCKLAND, December 2. Business men who returned from visits to Great Britain by the Rotorua from Southampton to-day all expressed the opinion that the Old Country was making a great effort to reattain the former prosperity of her trade and industries, and was succeeding. Mr James Wilson, deputy chief manager for the National Bank of Australia, with headquarters at Melbourne, spent a considerable portion of his nine months’ trio in England, and in talks he had with prominent business men and politicians he gathered that there was every indication of a return to prosperity. “ There is no doubt that prominent industrial men are making every effort to restore England’s previous position in the industrial world,” he stated. “On all sides there is evidence of happiness and optimism among the people. Of course, there is still a great deal of unemployment, but that seems to be an everpresent difficulty.” The great amount of building going on in al! parts of Great Britain was taken by Mr H. J. Bcswick, of Christchurch, as an indication of prosperity. He said he was struck .by the number of fine buildings and houses being built everywhere.
