TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

BOARD OF MANAGERS’ MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Technical College Board of Managers was held yesterday, the chairman (Mr T. Scott) occupying the chair. There were also present Messrs W. G. Baird, G. Clark. C. Conn, E. F. Duthie, F. L. Lawrence, J. T. Paul, L. Sanderson, A. W. Alindo, Mrs Cumming, and Mrs Herbert. Accounts and sundry payments for salaries amounting to £2094 2s 9d were passed for payment. The. chairman referred to the exhibition of work by the pupils which was held recently, and remarked that the display was highly creditable, not only to the pupils themselves, but to the teachers also. On his motion, a resolution conveying the congratulations of the board to the teachers was carried unanimously. It was decided that the closing ceremony of the college for the Christmas vacation take place on Friday, December 14, at 2.30 p.m. APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE’S REPORT.

The Appointments Committee reported that in regard to the proposed increased fees, after a full consideration of the effect of increased fees on evening classes it was decided to make a protest to the department against the increase and to request it to retain the scale in force since 1925. The department had given permission to increase the day school staffing by two if the board were satified that the teacher could be fully employed. The committee, however, decided to apply for a male teacher only, and then sub-

ject to the condition that the appointment should be complete only if the day school roll number in February, 1929,_ should justify it. The committee decided to recommenjj to the hoard that the practice of issuing one certificate only in each year be approved, and that after the year 1928 no certificates be issued to first year students at all. It was recommended also that the secretary be authorised to proceed with new designs for the issue during next year. The report was adopted. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT.

The principal (Mr W. G. Aldridge) submitted the following report for the month of November: —Evening classes closed on Thursday, November 15, and the second annual exhibition of work was held in the college buildings on the two following days. It was estimated that over 3000 people visited the college on Friday afternoon and evening, and a fair attendance was also recorded on Saturday evening. The exhibition has excited so much interest on the two occasions on which it has been held that it will almost certainly become a regular feature of _ the_ year’s work. Evening school examination results are now nearly complete, and should be ready for publication on December 1. Examinations have either been conducted

or arranged for in the college buildings within the last fortnight by the New Zealand Pharmacy Board, Public Service Commissioner, Trinity College, and Post and Telegraph Department. The plan of the Lancaster estate has been returned to the board’s solicitor after being, for 40 days, open for inspection. The next step is for the chairman of the Education Board to sign a memorial in regard to the transfer, which must be sent to Wellington, after which a proclamation is issued and registered. Tn all. there is likely to be a further delay of about six weeks before the board acquires the title. The report was adopted.

“ I am sending this lovely sausage to my Gustave and telling him in my letter to enjoy it, with my love, as if it were a part of me.” r, Berlin.
