The railings which the Marlborough County Council erected at the worst bends on the Redwood Pass road have already amply justified themselves in saving a motorist from at least a very bad accident (says the Express). He was driving up the pass the other day, and in his anxiety to keep ahead of a following car he took the corners at too great a speed. The result was that he hit thu railings no less than three times, and but for their presence would have gone over the bank. At the top of the hill he pulled up, and, white and shaking, set about easing the pressure of the mudguard from the near front wheel.

The chance moving of an office desk in a well-known city business bouse in Wellington disclosed some letters lying behind it (says an exchange). To the surprise of those who made the discovery* there were letters from India dated 28 years ago, and addressed to one. of the directors of a firm which had since removed from the premises. The letters were immediately delivered to their rightful owner.
