I—THE MINISTER’S STATEMENT. TOTAL EXPENDITURE OF £4,749,087 An epitome of the development of the Dominion dunns the past 12 months under the policy of the Public Work' Department is contained in the annual Statement '■of the Minister (Mr K. S. Williams) which was tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening. Last year £4,749,087 was expended from the Public Works and other accounts out of an estimate of £5,712,917. For the current year it is proposed to vote £5,369,500, the principal items being as follows: — RAILWAYS £ 1,384 000. ELECTRIC SUPPLY .. .. 1,260,000. ROADS AND BRIDGES .. .-. Under the provision for public buildings a vote of £30,000, on account, is included for the Chief Post Office in Dunedin.
