CLYDESDALE ENTIRES.
SHOW AT TAHUNA PARK. HIGH STANDARD OF EXHIBITS. The interest which was taken in the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s q, n ’, lUa of entire horses, held at Tahuna Park .on Thursday, shows that the event is not losing its popularity. Although the entries were fewer in number than last year, they were at satisfactory, and the standard of the'exhibus as a whole was high, the two-vear-olds being of much better quality 'than is usually/seen at the show. The champion proved to be Mr Alexander Cutten s Ray of Hope, a fine animal by Dunure Ernest out of Nancy of Balgray Mains, by Royal Raeburn. It was bred by Mr James A. Barr, of Balgray Alains, Scotland, and was the reserve champion at last year’s show. The judges were Messrs John Macdonald, Timaru, and Simon Fleming, of Crookston, and the stewards were Messrs John N imino. T. J. Gawn. and D. Andrew. Mr E. F. Duthie, the secretary of the society, was in charge of the arrangements, all of which were carried out up to time.
The results were as follows:— FOUR-YEAR-OLD OR OVER. Mr Alexander Cullen’s (Goodwood) Ray of Hope, by Dunure Ernest— N ancy of Balgray Mains .... 1 Mr Andrew Grant’s (Fairlie) Desire by Carron Dale—Grange Darling.. 2 Mr John Young’s (Allanton) Brunstane Duplicate, by Dunure Footprint—Marseillaise 3 Messrs Nicholson Bros. (Hampden) Scotland’s \ ictor, by Scotland’s Viceroy—Brilliant IV 4 Mr John Sayers’s (Mataura) Jabez Balfour, by Junior Chief—Lady Balfour a t # . 5 The judges stated that the standard of the section generally was high. The first and second prize horses were very close. The winner was particularly good at the ground and had plenty of ankle. It was a very good mover, and as far as quality was concerned was easily the best horse shown. The second horse was little inferior to Ray of Hope. The horse placed third was a good mover, but Scotland’s Victor was past his show days. Ray of Hope was particularly well handled in the ring. THREE-YEAR-OLD. Messrs Conbrough and Hamilton’s (Kelso) Golden Knight, by Rosecraig—Baron Bold 1 Messrs Thomsons’, Ltd. (Waironga) King of Kintyre, by Shanter—Lady Brilliant 2 Mr John Young’s (Allanton) Tourima Douglas, by Scotland’s Douglas— Taurima Bloom 3 Mr Thomas Logan’s (Otama) Archaic General, by Archaic—LadwStamp' 4 The class was described by the judges as a very good one. They stated that the first and second prize winners were fine colts. Golden Knight was a good mover, and a horse of fine quality. He was good at the ground,- anil seemed to be the makings of a fine horse. The second horse was also an animal of good quality, but it was not as good behind
as the winner. The third prize winner ■was above the average. - I TWO-YEAR-OLD. Mr A. Wilson's (Henley) Bridgebank Free Step,-by Bridgebank Chancellor—Minnie Park 1 Messiy Thomsons’, Ltd. (Waironga j Royal Risque, by Risque—Fabrics Queen o Mr J. A. Williamson’s (Wylie’s Crossing) unnamed, by Scotland’s Victor —Bloss 3 Also competed: Messrs J. Robertson and Son’s (Waikoikoi) Golden Craig, Mr Thomas Simpson’s (Waikaka) unnamed, Mr A. Wilson’s (Henley) Bridgebank Diamond, Mr John Colquhoun’s (Outram) Kinlock Hero. The class for two-year-olds, in the opinion of the judges, was the best in the parade. The first and second prize winners were described as outstanding colts. The winner, the judge stated, was very good at the ground and a good mover. It was the makings of a big horse and a future prize winner. The colt placed second was close behind the first. It was a good all-round animal showing quality. ONE-YEAR OLD. Hewitt’s (Goodwood) unnamed, Mr Thomas Logan’s (Otama) unnamed. , The judges stated that the yearlings as a whole were a good class. The winner was an outstanding colt which should do well at future shows. It had good, hard bones. The colt placed second was also a very good one. THE CHAMPIONS. The judges selected Ray of Hope as champion and Desire as reserve champion. CHALLENGE CUP. Desire and Brunstane Duplicate were the only entrants for Messrs Wright, Stephenson’s perpetual challenge cup, Desire being selected as the winner.
