PRICE OF FOOTWEAR.

AN INCREASE PREDICTED. CHRISTCHURCH, September 24.' Some time ago it was announced that prices of boots and shoes would go up by about 10 per cent, owing to the increased price of leather. The truth of that statement will be known when Christchurch shops display new shipments of goods- which are coming in at present: The goods sold for the November carnival can be expected to be higher in price. The principal reason for the increase is the price of leather. This accounts for the fact that footwear for both men and women will advance by about the same extent. Frequent and sudden changes in fashions in women’s shoes do not appear to have effected prices greatly, although there seems no doubt that they have caused a loss of many hundreds of pounds.
