Five sawmills are now working in the Tokanui, Haldane, and Waikawa districts, and these mills employ about 70 men (reports the Southland Times). Facilities for the transportation of timber from the mills to the railhead have greatly improved during the past few years, the more distant mills being provided with excellent roads over which the timber is transported by motor lor--11 That the Turnbull Library in Wellington contains a collection unique in New Zealand, having many rare manuscripts and valuable tomes, is widely recognised (says an exchange), but it will come as a surprise to most people to learn that two volumes in the library are worth 2000 guineas each. This was a statement m ide by the librarian, Mr Johannes C. Andersen, in addressing members of the Wellington Rotary Club.
