ASSOCIATION.

CHINESE CHARITY CUP. In previous years the contestants for the Charity Cup were usually the premiers and runners-up, but this season a new departure was decided on, and the premiers (Maori Hill) played the winners of the knock-out competition, Mornington, for the trophy. The game was played on the Oval on Saturday before an at tendance of about 2000 spectators, who witnessed a good cup tie match for the final game of the season. Maori Hill was without the services of Proctor. Martin, who was injured early in the season, filled the centre-forward position, Turner going to inside-left. Maori Hill displayed the better football, and the inclusion of Martin in the forward rank made a remarkable difference in its attacking strength, being two goals up through the latter’s efforts in the first four minutes of the game. The Mornington team, which was the same as won the knock-out, played a more vigorous style of football, and relied on the forwards to bustle the ball through. In the first spell they did well, and putting up a game fight, scored two good goals. Ou the day Maori Hill deserved its win, but there was not the difference of four goals as the final score would indicate, Rankine, the goal-keeper, letting through some simple goals, and a rather doubtful, penalty. The final scores were:— Maori Hill 6 goals. Mornington 2 goals. PREVIOUS WINNERS. The following clubs have held the trophy since its inception:— 1925 — Northern. 1926— Kaitangata. 1927— Seacliff. 1928— Maori Hill. The curtain-raiser between the O.F.A. and the Referees’ Club provided the onlookers with plenty of amusing incidents, and resulted in a win for the O.F.A. team by 2 goals to 1. Peake and Ruddiman scored for the winners, and Smith for the losers. AUCKLAND MATCHES. AUCKLAND. September 30. Y.M.C.A. 5, North Shore I’.--Onehunga 1, Tramways 1. Ponsonby 3, Northcote nil.
