Many claims might be advanced to being the i centre of this scattered Dominion, but, according to Sir Fowlds. the natural transportation centre of New Zealand is Palmerston North (says an exchange). Justifying the selection of the Manawatu town as the location of the Massey Agricultural College to members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Sir George stated that a student could leave Invercargill one day and reach Palmerston North at 10 o’clock next morning. This was as quick as a person could reach that town from North Auckland, and the cost from the southern extremity was no greater.
