Nearly 150 giant aeroplanes, capable of carrying bombs weighing 3000 pounds, known as the Eastland Force and representing an enemy Power, made a series of air “raids” on London recently, while 200 high-speed single-seater fighters acted as the Westland or defending force. Though the drone of the engines over London reminded people of war-time raids, these aerial manoeuvres took place to test the many R.A.F. squadrons and for instructional purposes for regular and territorial pilots.
