A humorous recitation —one of the shortest on record —was given at the carnival gathering in Wanganui (says an exchange). The programme had been a long one, and the gentleman who was to give the item, did not wish to tire his audience with a lengthy oration. “ I will give you ‘Nelson’s Farewell to His Mother,’ ”he said. The audience settled down comfortably for the night, and pre-_ pared itself for sleep. “ Ta-ta, Mum,” said the young man, and sat down. The audience did not go to sleep. The pffer of the Wellington Automobile Club to supply members writh petrol at a rate that compares favourably with ordinary retail prices has been accepted by hundreds of members, and the secretary (Mr H. J. Scott) has been kept very busy receiving cheques and issuing orders for delivery Isays an exchange). The club is selling in six-case lots, and is storing the unlifted balance free of charge. This arrangement is the same as that initiated by the Canterbury Automobile Association.
