A VISITOR FROM AMERICA
Mr T. C. Wasson, who for three and a-half years has occupied the position of Vice-consul of the United States of America at Melbourne, and who is completing a holiday tour of New Zealand, expressed himself freely to our representative on Tuesday evening in an interview on his impressions of New Zealand. His first appreciation was of the care and thoroughness of the itinerary set out for him by Mr C. J. Manson, New Zealand agent in Melbourne, and of the Tourist Department of this country for the completeness of the details in carrying out the arrangements that had been made. He spoke also,of the punctuality and efficiency of the railway and other public services, making special reference to the uniform courtesy that had at all times been shown to him. Mr Wasson was much struck with the magnificence and varying types of our scenery, from the geysers at Rotorua and Wairaki to the glaciers at Mount Cook. A day spent ski-ing in the vicinity of the Hermitage reminded him of similar experiences in Switerland, while the striking appearance of the glistening snowclad mountains and the
'cneerfulness of the Hermitage made a special appeal to him. On his last vacation Mr Wasson made a . hurried world tour, but on this occasion he has confined himself to New Zealand, where he has spent a very delightful time. He considers that the Publicity Department here xs doing good work in boosting New Zealand in the United States and in Australia. Mr Wasson is a native of Newark, New Jersey, United States of America, and received his primary education in the United States, followed by finishing courses in Paris and Athens.
