“It is competent to grant an underrate worker’s permit to an apprentice over 21 years of age who is usiable to earn the minimum wage of £1 7s 6d a week,” w-as the decision of the Arbitration Court at Auckland, in connection with a joint application for the interpretation of the northern industrial district shirt, white and silk workers’ award (reports the Auckland Star). The granting or refusing of such a permit, it was stated, would be subject to-con-sideration of the opportunities that employer had offered the apprentice of making herself efficient.
