DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS. COMPREHENSIVE DETAILS. The annual departmental reports of the City Council contain a wide variety of interesting information. The reports include a valuable record of events of note which have occurred in Dunedin during the past year as well as a comprehensive review of the trading departments of the city, etc. VALUATIONS OF THE CITY. . The increase over 1927-28 on the rateable properties is £60,122 and on non-rate-able properties £6765. The increase on the non-rateable properties is due to the pur chase of properties of the Dunedin Fire Board and the Dunedin City Council new valuations and revaluation of Government property.

Totals: Rateable—l92B-9, £1,217,320; 1927-8, £1,157,198. Non-rateable—l92B-9. £110,611; 1927-8, £103,846. It is interesting to note that on a 5 pei cent, basis the total capital value of the Greater Dunedin area for 1928-29 is in the vicinity of £26,558,620. HOUSES AND DWELLINGS.
