THE SWIMMING EVENTS. NEW ZEALANDERS PLACED. DUBLIN, August 20. In the finals of the women’s 100 metres free-style. swim Miss Russell (South Africa) was first, her time being 74 l-ssec; Miss Stockley (New Zealand) was second, and Miss Rennie (South Africa) third. Miss Mealing, the Australian, was not placed. In the men’s 800 metres free-style, Ault (Canada) was first, his time being llmin 2Gsec. Lindsay (New Zealand) was second, and Sampson (America) third. In the men’s 100 metres back-stroke Bourne (Canada) was first, his time being 77sec; Moorhouse (New Zealand) was second and Boast (Queensland) third. In the. men’s 200 metres free-style Spence (Canada) was first, his tfme being 2min 36 l-ssec; Bourne (Canada) was second and Sampson (America) third. Lindsay (New Zealand) did not start. In the women’s 400 metres free-style the first heat was won by Miss Miller (New Zealand), her time being 6inin 25sec; Miss Russell (South Africa) was second and Miss Wray (England) third.
WIN FOR MISS MILLER. LONDON, August 20. Miss Miller won by 15 yards. The Irish swimmers were generally outclassed. Miss Miller clipped 14sec off the Tailteann record. DUNEDIN GIRL’S SUCCESS. EASY WIN IN SWIMMING FINAL. DUBLIN, August 21. At the Tailteann Games, the first heat of the men’s 400 metres free-style swim wag won by Spence (Canada) in smin 21sec; Ault (Canada) was second, and Lindsay (New Zealand) third. The final of the women’s 400 metres swim was won by Miss Miller (New Zealand) in 6min 10 4-ssec; Miss Davey (Australia) was second, and Miss Laverty (England) third. Miss Miller beat the time in her first heat, which was a Tailteann record. A BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE. DUBLIN, August 21. Swimming 14 l-ssec faster than yesterday, Miss Miller brilliantly won the 400 metres final. The . heat time’s indicated a close race between Miss Miller and Miss Davey, but. the New Zealander was never challenged. The Australian girl was beaten by 20 yards, and had to swim hard to stave off Miss Laverty, -n ho finished two yards behind her. Miss Miller reduced Miss Shand's Tailteann record by 28 l-ssec. Miss Shand was also a New Zealander. CRUISER-WEIGHT BOXING. DUBLIN, August 22.
