An important bankruptcy case was heard before Mr Justice Blair in the Supreme Court at Hamilton on Tuesday last. George Cornfoot, who till recently was part owner of a large run in Hawke's Bay, applied for discharge from bankruptcy. His liabilities were £28,083, and his assets were small. The official assignee (Mr J. W. Robertson') opposed the discharge. He said he had just received a telegram from Mr Goulter, a sheep farmer at Blenheim, who was a creditor for over £BOOO, stating that Mr Goulter had received no notification of the application. His Honor asked bankrupt’s counsel what the reason was for hurry. Cornfoot had been adjudicated a bankrupt only six weeks ago. Counsel said that there were private reasons. for haste. His Honor adjourned the application till the August sessions.
