SOUTH CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP. ■ During last .week-end, as was reported in yesterday’s issue, C. B. Wight (Dunedin) and E. A. Scott (Timaru.) registered equal scores (164) over a 36-hole course in the play-off for the South Canterbury championship. On Tuesday these two played over an 18-hole course to decide the winner. Again both men returned with equal scores of 78, and it was then decided that, they should play over five holes to decide the championship. After playing the five holes Wight proved the winner by three strokes. The scores over the five holes were as follows: —Wight: 4, .5, 5,3, 4; total 21. Scott: 4. 6,6, 3,5: total 24. HAGEN DEFEATS COMPSTON. NEW YO K, July 25. Hagen defeated Compston, 6. up; and 5 to play, in the final 36 holes of their 72-hole match, which was completed hereon the Westchester Biltmore course. Hagen finished brilliantly and avenged his previous defeat by Compston, winning a 5000-dollar purse. ROSE BAY CUP COMPETITION. MISS KAY A COMPETITOR. SYDNEY, July 28. There is a remarkably strong field for this year’s Golf Cup competition at the Rose Bay links, beginning on Monday. There are many fine players, including Miss Kay, of Dunedin, whose reputation has preceded her. There are also other New Zealanders and outstanding Victorians competing. The draw for the first round will be announced to-dav.
