The game at Invercargill rebutted:— Otago 17 Southland 4 CUN CLUB. A nine bird sparrow sweepstake match was held at the club’s grounds, Green Island, on Saturday afternoon, the weather conditions being favourable for shooting. The birds were extremely lively, flying fast and low, with the result that they evaded the marksmanship

of the majority of the shooters. A. Callaghan (18yds) was the only competitor to account for the dull number of birds and secured first prize money, and W. Smellie (17yds) took second prize money with six birds. The other best tallies were: E. P. Graham (21yds) 5, R. M‘Donald (17yds) 5, H. Smellie (17yds) 5, and W. Morland (16yds) 5. A nine clay bird sweepstake followed, and the full number of breaks werescored by. E. P. Graham (19yds), H. Smellie (13yds), J. H. Edmond (11yds), R. Morrison (11yds), and these com petitors divided the money. Both J. H. Edmond and R. Morrison secured their breaks with all first barrel shots. The other best scores were:—G. E. Turner (16yds) 8, R. M'Donald (14yds) 8, J. A. Graham (18yds) 8, W. Smellie (15yds) 8, R. Graham (11yds) 8, and W. R. Morland (11yds) 7.

COURSING. LADIES’ BRACELET STAKE. The Dunedin Couring Club ran off the Ladies’ Bracelet Stake at Forbury Park on Saturday afternoon, and some interesting courses were witnessed. The plumptop was in good order, and a number of the dogs engaged showed a good turn of speed, and did some clever work on the game., Mr C. R. Marks acted as judge, the slipper was Mr W. Morris, Mr H. Divers press and Messrs T. and C. Lee went beyond their secretarial duties in connection with the meeting. Following are the results of the competition, for wlpch eight dogs were entered:— LADIES’ BRACELET STAKE. Winner to receive a-lady’s gold bracelet and £3 3s added money; runner-up £3 3s. First Round. Sight, by Andy Micawber; —First Glance,, beat Miss M'Pherson’s Beau Geste, by Gatling Gun—Lucky Lou. Second Round. Comical beat Final Verse. * • Electric Mac beat First Sight. Final. Comical beat Electric Mae. In the first round the hare proved to be a poor one, and in short course Comical led, and Lady Mac killed. Lady Micawber was slightly hung up in the slips, and Electric Mac raced to the hare and effected a clever kill. Heroic led Final Verse by a small margin, but Final Verse then came in and did nearly all the subsequent work. Heroic came again, but failed to wipe off the score against him. First Sight had slightly the best to the run up, and in a short and even course he and Beau Geste joined in. a kill. This course was run over again with a similar result. In the second round Comical led Final Verse by four or f *e lengths, and did most of the work that followed. Electric Mac was quickly on the game, but First Sight ran unsighted in the opening por-

tion of the course. He joined the later, but too late to wipe off the score established. In the final Comical led Electric Mac, and after the exchanges the game gained cover. AMATEUR CYCLING. TWO-MILE RACE. A tw.o-mile amateur cycling handicap was held on the Caledonian Ground during the interval in the League-football match between City and Kaikorai. There t were eight starters, and the result was as. follows:— H. Cooper, 60yds .... .... 1 J. Ewing, 150yds .. .. .. 2 C. Lucas, 80yds -.. 3 Also started: A. Rosenbrock 30yds, I. M’Millan 120yds, R. Johnson 240yds, T. Dillon 240, and J. Cruickshanks. 270. In the early stages of the race there was ho change in position. At the beginning of the last lap Cooper was leading, with Dillon, Johnson, and -Lucas following him in the order mentioned. In the back stretch Cooper increased his lead, while Lucas made a strong effort. Ewing, who was then third, rode into second place in the straight, and after a splendid finish suffered defeat by about a wheel, while Lucas was about a length further back. M'Millan finished fourth.
