DRAW FOR CHATHAM CUP. PROTEST BY HAWKE’S BAY. HASTINGS, July 23. The draw for the Chatham Cup competition showed that the winner of the Manawatu-Hawke’s Bay match, played last Saturday week between St. Andrew’s and Hastings United, was to meet at Wellington, the former to play at home. Hastings won its game, and Petone was the winner in the Wellington province, so that the latter were due to meet Hastings at Hastings next Saturday. The New Zealand Association informed Hawke’s Bay. Association last week that the match was definitely arranged for Hastings, but on Friday it telegraphed stating that sie Hastings team must travel to Wellington to play, or forfeit the match. The matter was discussed -at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Association, on Saturday evening when it decided-to telegraph the following protest to the New Zealand Association : — “ That this meeting of delegates of the Hawke’s Bay Association enters its emphatic protest against the action of the New Zeal, ad Football Council in demanding that unless the Hastings United team travels to Wellington to meet Petone on July 28 in the Chatham Cup tie, in spite of having drawn the match to be played at Hastings, it will forfeit the game; and further, that it is considered that this example of parochialism has deprived the Hawke's .Bay Association of a splendid chance of furthering the game in the province. We respectfully ask for an explanation as to why the draw has been altered, in our opinion most wrongfully, to suit Wellington.” It was also decided to write to all associations enclosing a copy of the protest, and asking for their support. ENGLISH TROPHY COMPETITION. . CHRISTCHURCH. July 25. ■ At a meeting of the Canterbury Football Association it was decided to write to the Auckland Association asking its team to play at. Wellington on August 11. Failing Auckland’s acceptance, Canterbury would play Wellington for the English Football® Association trophy. AUCKLAND. July 25. It is obnsidered that the decision of the New Zealand Football Council last night that Wellington should play Canterbury for the English F. A. trophy deprives Auckland of the interprovincial Association football premiership of the Dominion, which it rightly holds.
