CAR THIEVES IN TROUBLE.
COLLISION WITH ANOTHER CAR BOTH MACHINES DAMAGED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 28. A large Hudson car belonging to Mr J. Bryce, the well-known trotting man of Oakhampton Lodge, Hornby, was stolen last evening from in front of the Rink Taxis Garage in Armagh street, and shortly afterwards came into collision with a car owned by Mr F. Bishop, of Papanui, which was standing in Ruskin street, Sydenham. Air Bishop’s car was parked with all lights burning near the intersection of Barrie street and Ruskin street on the right side of the road. The other car turned out of Antigua street at what was, according to an eye witness, a very fast speed, and just missed a motor cycle and sidecar in front of Air Bishop’s car, and then hit that car. The driver of the stolen car and his companion were both <nnnig men fairly well dressed, and, in spite of the fact that they smelled stronglv of liquor, they had enough presence°o’f mind to give assumed names and to go off declaring that they would let the police know all about the accident. Mr Bryce’s car suffered less than Mr Bishop’s, its mudguards being bent, one wheel torn off, and the tyres burst. Mr Bishop’s car was badly damaged. Its bonnet was torn off,, parts of the engine were broken, and the body was bent in several places.
