ENTERTAINMENTS ARRANGED. ■ . GREYMOUTH, June 28. The farmers’ excursion from Otago commenced to-day and 240 persons who left Dunedin at 6.25 a.m., reached Greymouth at 8.45 p.m. after an enjoyable journey. At 9 a.m. a civic reception was tendered to .the visitors at the Town Hall. The Mayor (Mr J. W- Greenslade) said that in view of the splendid reception accorded the West Coast farmers on their recent visit to. _ Dunedin. West Coast farmers .were delighted in turn to welcome, those whose hospitality had made their visit so entirely enjoyable. He .’was., sure the visitors would find their stay/on the West Coast both enjoyable and interesting. He was glad to. extend a welcome to them, and hoped the . present, trip would conduce to the extension of the friendship and happy • relations between tlie farmers of other parts of. New'Zealand, and the West Coast... - .. . _ ’ Mr Seddon also welcomed the visitors on. behalf of the West Coast people. He mentioned that there was a clpse affinity between the Coast and Otago, since the West Coast was really originally populated by gold diggers, from Otago who had left the worked out diggings to seek new fields in Westland. He really believed that the famous Coast hospitality was a characteristic originally’ engendered in the hearts of these old pioneers. He. hoped the people of' both provinces ■would live up to those traditions, especially during visits of this kind. Mr J. M’Lean said that, since his name was closely connected with. Otago he was very pleased that the excursion had been arranged. He hoped the weather would remain fine and that they would enjoy their' visit to the Coast. Mr James Mulcare said that as a farmer he specially welcomed the farmers of other parts of New Zealand to the West Coast. * He . appreciated the’ value of the interchange of visits between farmers, and he hoped the Otago visitors would find nothing lacking in their visit, and- that the weather. . hospitality, and all other things would ’make the visit memorable.Mr «). ,D. Wingham, on behalf of the Otago arid Southland Association, also welcoined the party. ■ y.Mr W. D.
