RETURNED SOLDIERS.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Tuesday evening, there being present Messrs H. L. Paterson (in the chair), A. C. Laing, W- F. Forrester, R. Fullarton, A. G. Leeden, A. J. Gordon, R. Holt, J. S. Skinner, P. S. Anderson, and A. M'Hutchon. After reference had been made by the chairman to the desirability of increasing the membership of the association, a brief discussion took place, and it was finally decided that members of the executive should, by personal contact, endeavour to induce all ex-servicemen who ■vere not already members to join up with the association. Seven new members and one honorary member were elected, and three transfers, two outward and one inward, were granted. With regard "o the formation of a rifle club, the chairman stated that since the matter had first been discussed interest in the project had increased among members of the association. Considerable difficulty, however, was being experienced in securing a suitable range, and he thought it would be an excellent idea if a range could be erected on the association’s property. In view of the keenness of a large number of the members he felt sure the range would be freely patronised, and would become a good revenue-producing addition to the association’s activities.—A discussion ensued with regard to the site of the range, and the matter was eventually referred to tho Finance Committee. The secretary reported that a donation of £25 10s cowards the unemployment relief fund had been received from Mr G. J. Barton, of Messrs Barton and Trengrove. A letter had been sent to Mr Barton thanking him for his donation.—lt was decided that a record of appreciation of Mr Barton’s gift be placed on the minutes. Four cases of apples for distribution among the families of ex-service* men in necessitous circumstances were received from Mr L. Tennet, Dumbarton.—Tho secretary was instructed to write to Mr Tennet thanking him for his gift.
