BATCHELOR HOSPITAL GUILD.

The annual meeting of the Batchelor Hospital Ladies’ Guild was held in one of the rooms attached to Knox Church Sunday School Hall, Mr J. M. Gallaway presiding, and there being a fairly numerous attendance of ladies, including Mesdames Russell. Ritchie, and Cameron (vice-presidents) and Mrs Douglas Ramsay (secretary). The committee reported that the subscribers for the year were 40, and set out what the activities of the guild had been. The committee expressed its indebtedness to the Deacons’ Court of Knox Church for the use of the session room the Knox Church Ladies’ Guild, and the Young Women's Society for the use of sewing machines, and also to Mrs Cameron for providing and dispensing afternoon tea, and to Mr A. H. Mac Lean for auditing the books. A number of donations had been received. ■*

The report was approved and adopted Miss Every, matron of Batchelor Hospital, in the course of her remarks, emphasised the fact that the hospital was carried on for the sake of all women who were unable to meet expense, or had not the necessary cqnveniences in their own homes. It was eminently suitable for those cases that might have been attended with serious consequences had the patients remained in their own homes. That was to be accounted for by the additional conveniences in the hospital which were ready to hand, and an adequate staff of trained nurses. The advantages were not fully appreciated by the public generally and more particularly by people in the country. Miss Every specially emphasised that the hospital was carried on in conjunction with the Medical School.

Afternoon tea was provided and dispensed by Mrs Cameron and assistants.
