THE SUN CURE.
GENEROUS OFFER REFUSED. * NAPIER, May 14. When recently the offer of a Hawke’s Bay resident of £3OOO to’eonvert the roof of one of the wards at the Napier Hospital info a solarium, on the lines of a proposal made by Dr J. Allen Berry, medical superintendent, was brought to the notice of Dr Valintine, DirectorGeneral of Health, the latter declined to approve of the scheme. At the board meeting to-day Dr Berry made reference to Dr Valintine’s attitude, which he thought might be reasonable on the ground of economy, if there had not been an offer to provide the funds required; but under present circumstances he could not understand the director. “Dr Valintine is of opinion,” Dr Berry said, “that this is an American innovation. It is not. The sun cure is the work of great British scientists. It is not a fad, but is a work carried out on a,scientific basis." One member did not see why Dr Valin, time should over-ride the benevolence of people and the recommendation of the medical superintendent. The board did not decide on any definite course of aetion.
