EVIDENCES OF PROSPERITY. WELLINGTON. May 15. The greatly improved trading position of the Dominion as revealed by the figures for the financial year ended March 31, 1928, is further reflected by the figures for April, which have been supplied by the Customs Department. For the 12 months ended March 31 there was an excess of exports over imports of £10.542,674. Last month the exports -exceeded the imports by nearly £4.000,000. The exports during April amounted to £6,563.548. an increase of £1.480.795 compared with the corresponding month of last year. The imports last month were £121,346 lower than for April, 1927. There was an excess of exports last month of £3.866.007. The April trade figures afford the following comparison:—APRIL, 1923. Exports £6,563.548 Imports 2.697,541 Excess of exports .. 3,866,007 APRIL, 1927. Exports £5.082,753 Imports 2.818,887 Excess of exports .. 2 263,866 For the first four months of this year the exports have reached the extraordinary total of 29,700,258. which is more than 25 per cent, greater than for the corresponding period of last year. The imports for the four months of. this year are less than one-half of the exports, and nearly £5OOO less than for the same period of last year. Tne figures for the four-monthly period enaed April 30 afford the following comparison:— FOUR MONTHS, 1928. Exports £29,700.258 Imports 14.329,831 Excess of exports . . 15,370,427 FOUR MONTHS, 1927. Exports £21.753.786 Imports 14.814,766 Excess of exports . . 6,939,020 From the above figures it will be seen that the excess of exports for the four months ended April, 1928, is £8,431.407 greater than for the corresponding period of last year. The detailed figures of the exports for the lour months of this year afford the following comparison with these for 1927:— 1928. 1927.
