A LABOUR COUNCIL.

INCREASE OF WAGES GRANTED. CHRISTCHURCH, May 15. The City Council decided last night to grant an increase in wages to the general laboureis in its employ. The decision was opposed by the nonLabour representatives on the council. Cr Beaven said he was against the principle of the council fixing up awards .without referring them to the Arbitration Court. ’ The’council" ever since it had been a Labour council, had been making a privileged class of council employees. The total cost of the increases is £3203 annuallsr.
