ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. WEEKLY BANKING RETURNS. WELLINGTON, May 7. In accordance with the provisions of the Census and Statistics Act, 1926, arrangements have been made by which the six banks carrying on business in New Zealand will in future supply to the Government Statistician a return of business for each week ending Monday. The returns as a whole will be published in the monthly abstract of statistics. The weekly return supplied by each bank will include the following information: — (1) Bank debits, being total amounts debited to customers’ accounts at all branches during the week; (2) bank clearances, being the total outward exchanges delivered at all branches during the week; (3) advances as at end week—(a) notes and bills discounted, (b) debts due' to bank exclusive of debts abandoned aS bad; (4) deposits as at end of week—-(a) Government, (b) not bearing interest, (c) bearing interest; (5) total reserves as at end of week —(a) bank’s own legal tender metal coins, (b) gold and silver in bullion or bars; (6) legal tender notes as at end of week —-(a) bank’s own legal tender notes in circulation, (b) legal tender notes of other banks held; (7) bank discount rate, per cent, from (date of last - change); (8) bank interest overdraft rate, per cent., from (date of last change).
