•The ranger to the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr J. S. Main), reported to the last meeting of the council that the duck shooting season opened under favourable conditions (states the Timaru Herald). Ducks were plentiful, but wild. Sportsmen were pleased with the numbers shot, also the numbers of ducks which were to be seen flying by hundreds inland,. the sea being too rough for them to settle.
