AN UNDESIRABLE CHARACTER.

DETAINED FOR 18 AIONTIIS. CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. Douglas A’ernon Denny appeared in th® Alagistrate’s Court to-day charged with receiving sums of money amounting to £l4 10s in circumstances requiring him to account for them, which he had not done. He pleaded guilty. Chief Detective Carroll said that Denny was canvassing in North Canterbury for the Bell Alotor Company. He said that he was hard up, and that he was a South African, but could not raise enough money to get home. The Probation Officer said that Deuny appeared to be an undesirable type of young man, and that he should be deported. Denny was sentenced to reformative detention for 18 months.
