AUCKLAND TOPICS.

By

Digger.

The yearling colt by Tomabin—Lucella purchased at the Sydney sales for Air Colin Anderson, reached Auckland on Tuesday, and has joined J. T. Jamieson’s team. He is a nice-looking youngster. A large amount of schooling work is nowbeing performed at Ellerslie, and quite a number of the novices are showing encouraging form. ° Adjuster continues to make improvement in his fencing, being very clean. He is a big horse with plenty of and should develop good form early in his hurdling career.

Since being taken over by R. Flail Quincoma has twice visited Ellerslie to be

. schooled. He is not yet a finished Fencer, , but has natural agility and goes at his jumps with plenty of dash. Being a ! big horse with speed and good ability in : soft ground, he is expected to be one of I the season’s best novices. Quincoma will i not race at Wanganui, and his debut, over hurdles will be reserved for Ellerslie. ror some time Spalmone was troubled by an injured knee, but he now seems free of trouble. After' being hunted, he is S,? ain " e i u g schooled at Ellerslie, and on Ihursday he covered a round of the hurdles in fine style. Auckland will be represented at Wangathree good hacks, Whaka King, Lady s Boy, and Partial Eclipse. All are last beginners, and Aucklanders will have no particular fancy for any one if they S tir la - th e , same race. Partial Eclipse, a half-sister by Nassau to Awarere, is improving rapidly, and she should go close to the money on Thursday. Beau Cavalier maj' start only in the Great .Northern Steeplechase, but so far nothing has been definitely decided, nor has a rider yet been secured. S. Henderson, who rode him last year, has been offered the mount, and if Glendoure does not soart he will most likely again be on last seasons champion. Beau Cavalier was expected to jump the big fences on Saturday. He has trained on splendidly since racing at Te Rapa. i ~ tshire has not been out since his double victory at Easter, but he is revolted well He is a jumper of possibilities, although not as sure as could be wished at the big fences. I expect him to run a big race in the hurdles and likewise in the cross-country race if he makes no mistakes in his fencing. He is not likely to start anywhere before the Great Llandudno broke down badly at Te Rapa, and that was the reason of his Handicap* ldraWal fIOIU the Cornwall Ihat good horse Delightment is in training, but how far advanced is his preparation will not be known until he is brought to Ellerslie. He is our best on bad ground when thoroughly attuned. Dast year’s Cornwall winner Lomint is now being sent along, but I doubt her ti ainer s ability to have her wound un early in June. She is first class in the heavy ground, but is unsound, and may not last long. Pompeius Alashoon. and Importer are nonces that are showing form over the big timber. 1 ompeius is a speedy young horse who was put to jumping on account of being unruly at the barrier. He looks like playing, his part well in the_ new sphere. Kaurni was not nominated for the Great Northern, as it was thought he rrT- J? rw ard enough in condition. tie is training on satisfactorily, and will be seen out in other events at the Great .northern meeting.
