THE WAIKATO DIOCESE. HAMILTON, May 8. Two further moves in connection with the dissension in the Waikato Diocese are reported. Ihe first is the resignation of Canon F. J. Harvie from the positions of diocesan secretary and diocesan chaplain. Canon Harvie was recently suspended from the canonry by Bishop Cherrington. but was reinstated by order of General Synod. To-day the Standing Lor.imittee of the Waikato Diocese passed the following re-sohifi-m:—“That Canon Harvie’s resignation be accepted, that he be paid three months salary m lieu of notice, and that the Standing Committee places on record its appreciation of his work in the diocese.” The Standing Committee also resolved: “ Tim Standing Committee of the diocese of Waikato, after long and careful consideration of the state of unrest in the diocese, is unanimously’ of the opinion that no question has arisen which cannot be satisfactorily solved by wholeheatted concentration upon the work of the Church, and calls nw;i ebiifc'' -v-onle to rally and work together for the progress of the Kingdom oi God in n.e diocese under their bishop, whom they’ deliberately chose as the”- l<-"-01-->v. 1 + o abstain from airing grievances, real or otherwise, in the public m e-s :. p.. ; luce which only brings the Church into contempt and proportionately hinders her work. A former bishop of ,->m.klaml was yvont to say, ‘ Work unites, talk divides.’ ” RESTORATION OF PEACE DESIRED. NEW PLYMOUTH. May 8. At the annual meeting of St. Mary’s parishioners last night the following resolutions were passed without dissent:—• “That this meeting heartily’ congratulates Canon Harvie on his full reinstatement to office.” “That we view.with deep regret and extreme anxiety the seeming inability of its leaders to allay the widespread lack of confidence in the administration of the mundane and spiritual affairs in this diocese, and call upon synod to investigate thoroughly the causes and devise means of restoring peace and tn.’ '
