PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.

BUSINESS FOR MARCH. The following particulars of the loan transactions of the Public Trust Office and new business reported during the month ended March 31 have been supplied by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon J. G. Coates): — The amount paid out in settlement cf new loans was £219,123, making a total of £2,515,390 during the financial year just completed. Further new loans were granted to the amount of £67,854, and the total new loans now awaiting completion is £573,079, while offers of loans less than the full advances applied for amount to £190,616 —a grand total of £763,694. Application for additional new loans amounting to £324,470 are now under consideration. The new business continues to be satisfactory. The value of the new estates accepted for administration during the month was £588,833, and the total for the year ended March 31, 1928, exceeded all previous records. It amounted to £6,511,928, an increase of £960,909’ over the previous yeaj, which itself provided more new business than had previously been obtained in any one year. On March 31, 1927, the total value of estates and funds under , administration totalled £41,043,523. An exceptionally large fiumber of new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor —648 —were deposited for safe custody by testators during the month, and " the total of wills now held is 58,065,
