VALUELESS CHEQUES.

ACCUSED SENT TO PRISON. WELLINGTON, April 27. A few days after he had been refused permission to take away a suit of clothes from a tailor's shop without payment, \ alentine Charles Blake returned with a valueless cheque, which he tendered in payment. He appeared to-day on this charge. The police stated that the accused had 6s 3d in the bank, but had issued nine valueless cheques since January. He seemed to have a mania for the practice. The accused was sentenced to ono month's imprisonment. Blake also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the terms of his probation, and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the sentences to be concurrent.
