Tho New Zealand (Nelson) Alpine and Rock Garden Society has just received per s.s-. Port Adelaide five cases of new plants from England, and it is satisfactory to report that they opened in perfect condition (says the Evening Mail). 'lhe bulk of the plants are from Baker’s, and thanks to perfect packing the loss in transit is practically nil. An experimental order was sent to a Dutch firm and the consignment arrived by tho same steamer in one case. Although the plants came through well . the shippers have yet to learn the art of packing for so long a distance. The society received 639 plants, and the loss in transit is less than 3 per cent. Full particulars have been sent to the Home gardening papers as they are most interested to know the results. The cases came through in the vegetable room of the steamer, under special supervision.
