THE FIRST HUT IN THE CENTRE OF THE TAUHAKUPU FOREST. The hut was built by Sir Thomas Mackenzie in the year 1889, twenty miles back from settlement. In the group are the late Mr J. W. Thomson, M.P., Hon. D. T. Fleming, Mr J. F. Arnold, M.P., Mr Claud Martin, the late Mr J. J. Ramsay, Mr J. T. Johnson, Mr C. R. Chapman, Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., and Sir Thomas Mackenzie.
