NEW ZEALAND AND CANADA.
PROPOSED TRADE - TREATY.
NEGOTIATIONS SUSPENDED
WELLINGTON, March 13.
Attempts to negotiate a trade treaty between New Zealand and Canada have apparently been suspended temporarily. It had been suggested that the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Downie Stewart) intended to proceed to Canada to confer with the authorities there, and Mr Stewart was asked to-day whether he could throw any light on the subject. “A proposal was under discussion by the Government,” the Minister stated, “ but owing to the fact that the Canadian Parliament will be in session for some time the proposal has been laid aside in the meantime.”
