FINE OF £5O IMPOSED. WANGANUI, February 27. George Lambert . Bruce Whillans, a storekeeper at Fordell, was fined £5O this morning for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. Evidence .was given for the defence that he was’a sober man apart from this lapse. The Magistrate (Mr J. S. Barton) accepted this evidence, and said he would not cancel the license, but this would be reflected in the fine. MAORI’S LICENSE CANCELLED. GISBORNE, February 27. In the Police Court, a Maori, Whare Carroll, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. His. license was cancelled, and he was declared unfit to hold a license for three years.
