CYCLONE IN THE PACIFIC.

A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. AUCKLAND, February 21. News of a cyclonic storm in the Pacific was brought by the Tofua’s passengers. The storm centre was Vavau, On February 3 the barometer reading was 28.96, and the wind blew for several hours at 7 0 miles an hour. The 'cyclonic storms passed to the westward of the Samoa Group, but caused heavy rain. In me week the rainfall at Mulinuu was 24.1 in, and in one day 23 points fell on Solaua plantation at Pago Pago, where there were only a few bursts of wind. As far as could be ascertained when the Tofua left only slight damage was done to houses and plantations where the cyclone was felt.
