A DARING ESCAPADE.
WOMAN ROBBED IN STREET. CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. Tn the Magistrate's Court to-day George William Pliillipßon, aged 17, was charged with stealing a purse and its contents, valued at 8s Bd. , Senior Sergeant Lewis said that the accused and a younger boy wanted some money with which to go to Corsair Bay. Thej’ devised a scheme for getting money. They were to go up behind a woman in the street, and one was to grab hold of her handbag while the other cut strings with a pair of scissors. This scheme they put into effect. The accused was ordered to be detained in the Borstal Institution at Invercargill for a term not exceedin'! two
The younger boy appeared in the Children’s Court, and was committed to the care of the child welfare officer.
