BALANCE SHEET TAGS.
“ NOTHING BUT RED TAPE.” AUCKLAND, January 17. “ These tags are nothing but red tape,” stated Mr William Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board at a meeting to-day, commenting on the fact that the board’s balance sheet for the years ended March, 1926, and March, 1927, contained nine tags. He added that the tags referred to very minor matters that in the past had been ovelooked by the auditors. Mr Wallace also criticised the charges of the Audit office, amounting to £3OB L4s, as against £212 2s 8d for the preceding two years. ‘‘We - should protest against what we consider an extortionate charge,”-said Mr Wallace. “We had an auditor in our office for four months, and sometimes he had an assistant. I think the thing is ridiculous.” Mr E. H. Potter said they were not in a position to criticise because they had no information.
Mr Wallace: There has been an increase of nearly 50 per cent, in the charges, and that must be accounted for. Mr M..J. Coyle stated that the extra charge might be accounted for by tags.
