SEVERE EARTHQUAKE.

UPHEAVAL IN CENTRAL AMERICA, WELLINGTON, October 27. The earthquake mentioned in the cables as having occurred probably in Central or South America was recorded on th<» seismograph at the Dominion Observatory. It first made itself evident about 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday, and lasted for some hours, the shock being of such severity that the oscillations travelled right round the globe, and recorded themselves a 'second time. Judging by the records it would seem as if the location of the upheaval was somewhere in Central America, the Alaskan shake reported on the same day being a local affair of a magnitqdA not comparable with the other one.
