OTAGO CENTRE AFFAIRS. The twenty-fifth annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur- Athletic Association (Otago Centre) was held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms on Tuesday evening. Mr E. L. Maeassey (president) in the chair. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report, said that last season was a record in amateur athletics in Dunedin, and the coming year promised to be even better. There were 14 clubs affiliated to the centre, including one ladies’ club. The membership of these totalled, roughly, 1000. It was a matter f6r congratulation that the Caledonian Ground had been put in better shape, and the centre owed a debt of gratitude to Mr R. Maxwell for.the .way in which he had looked after the grounds, and also for the manner in which he had treated the competitors. This year they had four or five new challenge cups to. offer, rules relating to which would be drawn up as soon as possible. It was expected that a strong

Otago, representation would be sent to the New Zealand championships at Lancaster Park (ChristAuircli). In connection with the Olympic Games, he said no Dunedin meeting had yet been called, but he ielt sure that the co tre would give the matter its heartiest support. He hoped no money would be wasted in sending men to represent New Zealand who had no chance of winning. It ould be far better to spend the money in getting overseas champions to come to New Zealand. Such visits as that of Scholz and Hahn were invaluable. The speaker referred to the work of the late secretary (Mr R. Swinney) and the present secretary (Mr E. C. Isaacs). The balance sheet as not unsatisfactory by anv means, considering the difficulties with which the centre had had to contend. The motion was seconded by Mr W. L. Hoopci, who said that though the year had been a good one, he thought they could go on improving. He suggested’ that an endeavour should be made to give effect to an idea mooted some time ago—-the incorporation of such districts as North Otago. He wished the clubs the best of success in the coming year. Other speakers congratulated the centre on the annual report, and the generally flourishing condition of amateur athletic affairs. The motion was carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. 'llie election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—Patron, the Mavor (Mr W I'. Taverner) ; president. Mr L. E. In nominating Mr Maeassey for the position of president for another term, Mr Melville referred to the unremitting energy and diligence which had characterised all that official’s work for the centre in the past. He could think of no man better qualified-to fill the position. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £5 per annum. r A vote of thanks was passed to the Y.M.C.A. authorit.es for the use of the rooms ’liroughout the year. CORR ESPONDENCE.

The New Zealand Association wrote advising the centre that the Dominion Council maintained that it had broken no agreement with the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union. If such an agreement existed the council would like to have a copy of it.—Received. In answer to a request from the New Zealand Council, Mr A. Bain was nominated as a judge of walking at the New Zealand championships. 'I he centre decided to accept the offer of a visit from the Australian athletes, and it was resolved to wTite and see if they could be brought to New Zealand via Bluff.
