SPIRITUALISM.
LECTURE IN ALBANY’ STREET HALL. A lecture on “Spiritualism in the Bible and in the Early Christian Church ” was delivered in the Albany Street Hall last evening by Mr J. A. Forbes. The ’ecturer said that 80 years ago the possibility of persons from the other side of life coming back to earth and communicating with their friends was almost universally discredited. To-day this was a fact accepted by many people, including scientists, profcssonal men and others who took the trouble to investigate the subject for themselves. They had discovered that they were able to meet ami converse with their friends who had passed away. While this was so, and the number of inquiries was rapidlv increasing. it had to be acknowledged’that the churches generally stood aloof from the movement, basing their objection mainly on a certain command given by Moses in earlj- Bible days, when rank ignorance and supestition existed among the Jews. Today people were paying less attention to creeds and dogmas, and getting to realise that the development of character was the all-important thing. That good, straight, fine living was the one passport to a life, of happiness in the world beyond was emphasised by nearly all spirit controls, especially of iate. They also indicated that the world would ere long experience an upheaval, which it was to be hoped would turn people from their mad pursuit of wealth and pleasure. It was. however, encouraging to know that though orthodox -eligion was on the decline, manypeople were inquiring into the grave matters of life and death.
