SOME FIRST PRIZE WINNERS.
The following prize-'..inners (whose photographs appear in this issue) were trained at St. Thomas's Academy, Oamaru:—Master Patsy Dunn— Violin solo (under 12 years), special prize gold medal, Ist prize; violin solo, own selection (boys or girls under 15 years), Ist prize. Master Tom Roach—Elocution: Reading at sight (boys or girls under 16 years), Ist prize. (Judge’s remark: “An outstanding performance.”). Junior champion (under 12 years), Ist prize; test piece (under 12 years), Ist prize; violin solo (under 12 years), special prizes donated by an Oamaru resident, silver pencil, 2nd prize. Master Dan Doyle—Junior champion recitation, Ist prize. (Judge’s remarks: “The best climax heard at the Competitions. ) Test piece, 2nd prize; patriotic recitation, 2nd prize. Master Anthony Murdoch—Patriotic recitation, Ist prize; junior champion (under 12), 2nd prize; test piece (under 12 years), 2nd prize. Physical Drill—Boys of St. Thomas’s Academy 1 (with their instructor, Sergeant-major Wright), winners of the Polytechnic Shield). (Judge’s remarks: “The march-on and general drill the best he had seen for many years. ) Junior Choir—Boys of St. Thomas’s Academy 1. (Judge’s remarks: “Best junior choir he had heard in New Zealand.”
