MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held on Thursday morning, and was attended by Messrs AV. O. M'Kellar (president), A. M'Kay, A. Johnson. D. M. Phillip, John Hellyer, John Young, J. Gow, R. 11. Edie, Chas. Todd. H. Allen. E. M. North. 11. Turner, 11. C. Campbell, T. J. Gawn, and S. Bowman. REPORTS. The Finance Committee recommended that debentures amounting to £2lOO, which were due on September 30, .be redeemed. These debentures are the balance of an issue of £5600 secured on mortgage at Tahuna Park, and the committee recommend that these lie paid through the Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Co., Ltd. The committee also recommended that accounts amounting to £lO4 Is lid be passed for payment. The report was adopted.

Ths Grounds’ Committee reported that instructions had been given to proceed with the erection of an iron fence enclosing a portion of the sand hills, which would provide a natural grand stand for patrons attending the shows. The report was adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence from the New Zealand Farmers Union in connection with the visit of the Canterbury farmers, was read and noted.

Mr E. C. Hazlett wrote advising that he was leaving New Zealand for some time, and tendering his resignation as a member of the committee. —It was decided that Mr Hazlett be granted leave of absence, and the committee expressed the hope that lie would soon be restored in health, and be able to take up his position on the committee when he returned to Dunedin.

The Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association wrote granting the use of the horse bazaar for the examination of stallions c-n the day preceding the horse parade.—lt was decided that the association be thanked for its kindness in granting the use of the yards.

The Clydesdale Horse Society wrotd stating that three-year-old colts were not eligible to compete for the cup at the horse parade, and that the donors had expressed a wish that competition for this cup should be open to horses which had proved themselves breeders.—The conditions were accepted.

The Secretary submitted a list of names of judges.—He was instructed to again communicate with those who had not yet replied. Judges were nominated to fill some sections which had been omitted, and the committee dealt with several matters dealing with the Summer Show.

SPECIAL PRIZES. Special prizes and conditions were received and allocated as follows, subject to the approval of the donors where conditions have been imposed :— Clydesdale Horse Society (A\ T right. Stephenson, and Co., Ltd.), cup valued 75 guineas for best stallion, four years old, and Thomson and Co.’s £lO 10s cup for

best yearling colt competed for at the horse parade. The Dunedin Stock Agents and Wool Brokers’ Association offer four trophies, valued at £lO 10s, for competition in the Border Leicester, Romney Marsh, Corriedale, and Merino sections. Anonymous offers trophy valued £2l for best two geldings four years old or over, open to town carriers, contractors, public bodies, and farmers. The Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Co., Ltd . offer £5 5s for most pom's in the cattle breeding section. The Dunedin Jockey Club offer £l5 15s for leaping competitions. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co., Ltd. offer cup for most points in fat sheep and lambs —freezing classes. The Forbury Park Trotting Club offer £lO 10s for light harness horses and pony t rots. The Milburn Lime and Cement Co., Ltd., offer a six-ton truck of loose burnt lime for most points in fat lambs. The New Zealand Friesian Association offer gold medal for most points in Friesian section.

Messrs Briscoe ami Co., Ltd., offer £3 3s for best Clydesdale mare with foal at toot, or in foal.

The Clydesdale Horse Society offer medal for best yearling or two-year-old filly. The New Zealand Sheep Breeders’ /Association offer four shields for Border Leicester ram and ewe, and Corriedale ram and ewe. Mr A. Stewart offers £2 2s for best spring van up to 20cwt. The New Zealand Friesian Association

(Otago branch) offers £2 2s for champion cow, and £2 2s for champion bull, Friesian section. Tho Otago Hunt Club offer two cups, each valued at £5 ss, to be allocated in the hunting competition. Tho Dunedin Dairymen's Association will contribute as m former years for the best dairyman’s turn-out, the amount to be fixed at the first meeting of the association.
