DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS.

An increase of 129 as against the total last year is recorded in the entries for the 1927 festival of the Dunedin Competitions Society. The total this year is 172 d, and the largest increase is in the elocutionary section, the entries in which have increased from 389 last year to 531 this year. A falling-off is recorded in tho instrumental sections, and the number has dropped from 207 to 196.

There are 561 entrants in the vocal sections, and 184 in the national dancing sections. The fancy dancing sections do not appear to be so nopular this year, and the entries have fallen from 263 to 244.

No fewer than 14 competitors have entered for the impromptu speech, and tha ladies’ elocutionary sections have attracted a large number. The pianoforte section entries are inclined to be disappointing, but there are 12 entries in the new mouth organ section.
