DOMINION AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.

HASTINGS, August 2. The following will represent Hawke’s Bay at the New Zealand amateur championships at Invercargill:—Bantam, P. Hutchinson (Hastings); feather. L. Knuckey (Hastings) ; middle and lightheavyweight, Hepburn (Napier).

SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSHI PS INVERCARGILL, August 2 Included in the 30 entries received for the Southland amateur boxing championships, to be decided on Friday evening, is J. Leckie, of Dunedin, who has entered in the heavy-weight class.

Tom Heeney, the New Zealand heavyweight, won from Bud Gorman, of Wisconsin, on a foul in the third round of a scheduled ten-round feature bout here tonight, at Madison Square Garden. FAIRHALL BEATS PURDY. SYDNEY, August 5. ,At the Leichhardt Stadium, Tommy Fairhall (IGst) outpointed Purdy in a 15-rounds’ contest. The fight was very crude, both men trying for a knockout at the expense of scientific boxing. Purdy almost had his opponent outed in the fourth round, delivering two hard lefts to the chin, the bell saving the Australian. After this Purdy was heavily punished about the body. There were many breaches of the rules, both men being repeatedly warned bv tho referee. Both men fought fiercely throughout, and in the fifteenth round two hard lights opened a deep gash in Purdy’s temple, from which ho bled freely.

Fairhall established a good lead early in the fight and continued scoring the major points, establishing a comfortable margin at the conclusion. Purdv’s chances of winning were marred by his excessive clinching. WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS. GREYMOUTH, August 7. The West Coast amateur boxing championships were held on Saturday night 'n the presence of a record attendance. Results:— FLY-WEIGHT. S. Purton defeated M Phee. B A NT A M-WEIGHTS. Rooney defeated Roy. FEATHER-WEIGHT. M. Kiely defeated Hoskyns. LIGHT-WEIGHT. W. Duggan defeated Morrissey. WELTER-WEIGHT. J. Nelson drew with Moffitt. MIDDLE-WEIGHT. 11. Cotter defeated M’Kav. LIGHT-HEAVY-WEIGHT. Turtil] defeated Ketchell. HEAVY-WEIGHT Hogg defeated Mulloy. BOUTS IN AUSTRALIA. . , SYDNEY, August 7. At the Stadium “Sunny Jim” Williams c.efeatea “liger” Payne on points in a fiercely fought 15-round bout, both men taking severe punishment. The New South Wales fly-weight championship at Newcastle was won bv Vio bite on points over Frankie Jackson in 15 rounds.
