CHRISTCHURCH VERSUS DUNEDIN.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 2. The Christchurch Training College met a team from the Dunedin Training College in the annual athletic contest, which was begun to-day. Christchurch proved much superior in the swimming section, which they won by 15 points to five. They won the lawn tennis tourney by 12 matches to 10. SWIMMING. 53 1-3 Yards Free Style.—N. The home players were superior in all departments in lawn tennis except in the ladies’ singles, where the honours were easy. Results (Canterbury names mentioned first): — Men’s Singles.—P. R. Dixon lost to Miss P. Lawson. 9 —l; Miss A. Norton lost to Miss C. Smith, 9 —7; Miss M. Vestey beat Miss R. Whiteley 9—3. Combined Doubles.—Miss Dallas and Wilberg beat Miss Gloyn and M'Leod, 9—3; Miss Dixon and Kissel beat Miss Lawson and Forbes, 9 —2; Miss Norton and Shepheard beat Miss Smith and Cooke, 9—3; Miss Vestey and Beatson beat Miss Whiteley and Gibson. 9—4.
DUNEDIN v, CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The mter-T'raining College tourney — Christchurch and Dunedin—was continued to-day Dunedin won both scries boxing and ladies’ hockey. The following are the boxing results: — BOXING. Bantam-weight.—W. Spence (Dunedin) 9.3, beat J. Hamlin (Christchurch), 9.3. Light-weight.—A. Ferguson (Dunedin) 9.12, beat XV. Gaudin (Christchurch), 9.11. Welter-weight.—D. Brown (Dunedin) 10.3, beat T. Kelly (Christchurch) 10.8. Middle-weight.—D. G Grant (Christchurch) 11.2, beat E. Manson (Dunedin) 11.4, Heavy-weight.—A. Malcolm (Dunedin) 12.3. beat W. Marshall (Christchurch) 11.4 by a knock-out in the fir = t round. HOCKEY. In a hard-fought contest Dunedin beat Christchurch by 2 goals to nil. DUNEDIN SUCCESSFUL. CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. With four wins and a draw to two wins and a draw the Dunedin Training College won the 1927 tournament with Christchurch Training College. Dunedin won the debate, ladies' hockey, boxing, and basket ball, and Christchurch won the lawn tennis and swimming. The football match was drawn. To-day Dunedin won the basket ball by 17 to 8, and the Rugby match ended 6 all. Canterbury were victorious in the men’s hockey by 2 goals to 1. The visitors will return to Dunedin to-morrow.
