RAID ON CHINESE CAFE.
AUCKLAND, June 29. Sunday's raid bv detectives, who visited the Nanking Cafe and chop-suey shop in Grey street, and arrested 66 Chinese on various charges, has swelled the consolidated fund to the extent of £3OO. Of the 66 arrested, 42 wore dealt with on Monday morning, when £ll6 was levied in fines. Tho other 24 came before the Police Court this morning, when the three principals were each fined £5O. and 17 others found on the premises £2 each. This makes a totj of £3OO in fines, plus police expenses, ordered to bo paid. Fong Hung was charged with wilfully permitting premises to be used a s a common gaming-house, and Ah Wing and Ah Lee with using premises c.s a common gaminghouse. Mr Tong appeared for Fong Hung, who pleaded guilty. Ah Lee also pleaded guilty. Mr Tong admitted that Hung was the keeper of the house, also that fan tan and dominoes were games of chance, but not mah jong. Fong Hung was fined £5O, and Ah. Wing a similar amount. Ah Lee also had to contribute £5O to the consolidated fund.
